King of bass pick ups

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

I tried this pick up out last night in Stavanger.  I was a little scepticle at first…  when I have used other pick ups with similar positioning to this I have found the sound  a little trebley.  But wow, this was the fullest, most detailed sound I have ever experienced from any pick up, I want one!

However, the price is equally impressive.  I may have to wait.

Wok Away – Vast improvement, but no gold star

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

Reader(s) may remember that I reviewed Wok Away some months ago. They forgot to put any flavouring or ingredients in with the noodles…. Well, it may have escaped your notice that they kindly offered a free meal as compensation. I didn’t take them up on that fair and reasonable offer – the opportunity never arose.

However I did try their food again last night…… A vast improvement! The food was quickly prepared and really very tasty. Unfortunately they forgot to include the Japanese rice included in the price of the dish.

So, their concept is great, their ingredients are good enough, but they still haven’t got their eye on the ball when it coes to service!

La Casita Roskilde

Sunday, June 28th, 2009

Very friendly staff and service.

Perhaps too large a menu, clearly just plonked on a plate and microwaved. This food was on a par with the majority of Mexican food in Denmark, sadly it will not satisfy someone searching for a special culinary experience and it was, I think, overpriced. However they clearly know their business and had no trouble filling the restaurant with happy looking punters.

The meaning of Prego

Sunday, June 28th, 2009

When a waiter says ‘Prego’ in Italy, it is meant to convey a readiness to serve, to do what is asked of them. Pleasant eh? Well, how ironic then that the Italian restaurant situated at Islands Brygge 33
2300 København S, is called Prego.

We were seated quickly and pleasantly, but then things went a bit wrong. It took 15 minutes before the table was cleaned, then we waited at least 30 minutes for our food, they could at least have brought us our salad quicker than that.

When the food arrived, we were a little surprised that neither of the dishes were what we had ordered. The owner was quite happy to switch one meal, but when it came to mine he told me I was wrong and that I would not receive any other dish. I tried to explain that I only wanted what I had ordered. He then told us to leave, and banned me from his other eating establishment two doors down the road.

Sadly this puts me in the situation of not being able to review his food, as I never got to taste it. My girlfriend did however get a mouthful or two before I was barred for life. She said it was quite tasty. So, if you don’t mind what you get to eat, or when you get it, you could get a good meal here. But for heaven’s sake, don’t dare to question the manager, he has a short fuse.

Swing 41

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

This is a beautiful album.

If you like Gypsy Swing, you will like this CD.  But don’t expect any fireworks.  The playing is at times extraordinarily good, especially from the violinist (Jørgen Martinsen), but the overall feel is of a band, relaxing, enjoying listening to each other and not having anything to prove.

And yes, I am biased.

Wokaway

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

A new Asian take away has opened here on Amager!
Wokaway has a very simple concept:
Four different dishes answering to the names The Japanese, The Korean, The Thai and The Vietnamese. Each of these available with Beef, Chicken or Tiger Prawns. It’s a shame there is no real vegetarian option, but you can get a salad, a soup, or The Snack which consists of spring rolls and Chicken kebabs with various sauces.

Service: Friendly, but they got my order wrong and there was only two dishes.

Speed: 20 mins for two dishes, bearing in mind that they were extremely busy (and have been ever since they opened) this seemed quite reasonable.

Price: An opening week offer of 49 kr a dish.  You can not beat that here on Bryggen.

Food: Greasy and flavourless. Shame.  I’ll give them a month or so and try again, they do seem to be struggling with the opening rush.
