Electronic Music Stand

Friday, November 9th, 2007

Electronic music standAt our last rehearsal/Jam with the Svensson Leile Quartet, Christian brought along his latest toy…
An electric music stand that contained PDF’s of all his real books and so on, it was a bit bulky, but much lighter than 8 real books and a bunch of loose music paper.

At that price tag I think I’s stay analogue with my notation, particularly as I’m supposed to be teaching myself to memorise music at the moment. It was a very impressive gadget though!

Don’t forget you can print out your own blank manuscript paper on this sight

My Funny Valentine

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

Jakob and I had a double pleasure today, not only did we get to play with our friend Mikkel Find for the first time in almost two months, but we met Nick, and his trumpet. It was only a jam session really, but still worth my getting the old Zoom H4 out and recording it as this sample proves:

  • Peter Williams – Bass
  • Mikkel Find – Drums
  • Jakob Svensson – Vibes
  • Nick – Trumpet

We’re planning to have a quintet session when Christian can next make it!

End of a Busy Week

Saturday, September 8th, 2007

Well, with my blisters still fresh from last weekend (the result of having a short holiday followed by playing a gig with Henrik Larsen and Robert Pilgaard), I had a busy, painful and enjoyable week.

It was rounded off with a gig with Svensson – Leile Quartet (clip below) and rehearsal for Henrik Larsens new CD (Thursday) a performance at PGU’s graduation ceromony with Swing 41 and a private party with Anne Eltard (Friday). All my blisters popped up, popped and popped again. But it’s always nice to be busy, and my fingers will be back to their usual leathery boot finish by tomorrow.

Return of the Circus Band

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

… or at least some of it,

We had a bit of a Jam session last night at Jakob’s rehearsal studio, we were graced with the presence of Steve Green on alto sax. This was the first time I’d played with Steve since we were both on the Circus Arena tour in 2004.

It was a pleasure to play with him again, and we hope to play some more when he returns from his cruise ship gig in March next year.

  • Peter Williams: Bass
  • Steve Green: Alto
  • Jakob Svensson: Vibes
  • Mikkel Ovesson: Drums

Svensson – Leile Quartet without Leile

Since Christian has become a father we haven’t seen much of him. We hope to see him and the baby soon.

Meanwhile…. We have a great Trio anyway, playing one of Jacob’s original pieces.

Blue in Green

Monday, June 25th, 2007

The Svensson-Leile Quartet were in rehearsal this morning. We were missing Christian (Leile), he is busy being a new father. And I was feeling a bit blue having been unable to attend my brothers wedding in Las Vegas. So, blue in green seems a fitting inclusion to the weblog. But thanks to Sophia for being there to cheer us up!

  1. Double Bass – Peter Williams
  2. Vibraphone – Jacob Svensson
  3. Drums – Mikkel Find

New member of Svensson Leile Quartet

I would like to congratulate (belatedly) Christian and Annika on their new baby boy!

We are not sure yet what instrument he will be playing, but I expect we will try him out on percussion soon!

Have you met … Svensson – Leile (Jazz) Quartet?

Friday, March 2nd, 2007

I have been extremely fortunate in the last one or two years. I have played with some of the best musicians of my career so far. I’ve been self indulgent to previously unimaginable levels in that I’ve focused exclusively on music that I love. I’ve managed to combine the relaxed attitude that would accompany a hobby, with some of the the dedication and focus that is required when following a career in the arts. Composing has turned into a compulsive habit, one that reveals more and more joys and secrets every day. I’ve also returned to teaching music, and been surprised by how rewarding and inspiring it is this time round.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that I love what I’m doing. (And hope I do more and more of it). But my favorite thing is playing with Svensson-Leile Quartet. I hope this rehearsal recording can give you an idea why.
