What a great inventor he was!

King of bass pick ups

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

I tried this pick up out last night in Stavanger.  I was a little scepticle at first…  when I have used other pick ups with similar positioning to this I have found the sound  a little trebley.  But wow, this was the fullest, most detailed sound I have ever experienced from any pick up, I want one!

However, the price is equally impressive.  I may have to wait.

Wok Away – Vast improvement, but no gold star

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

Reader(s) may remember that I reviewed Wok Away some months ago. They forgot to put any flavouring or ingredients in with the noodles…. Well, it may have escaped your notice that they kindly offered a free meal as compensation. I didn’t take them up on that fair and reasonable offer – the opportunity never arose.

However I did try their food again last night…… A vast improvement! The food was quickly prepared and really very tasty. Unfortunately they forgot to include the Japanese rice included in the price of the dish.

So, their concept is great, their ingredients are good enough, but they still haven’t got their eye on the ball when it coes to service!

Kongensbro Kro

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

We stopped here on our way to Ørslev Kloster for some lunch.

It’s not far from the main road to Viborg, the surroundings are idellic, it has charm, autenticity and a relaxing atmosphere.  The prices were pretty high, but still value for money as we were totally satisfied with smørebrød fit for royalty…   Certainly the best I’ve ever seen.

John Pizzarelli – I Got Rhythm

Custom House Bar and Grill

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

This restaurant lies just round the corner from Nyhavn, right next to the water and has one of the most relaxing settings in the center of the city.

We ate there with a fairly large group so we got to try out a good range of the menu.

First impressions were very good. The service was more than just good, the waiter was amenable and took almost no prompting to change the wine when it appeared corked. We were seated outside and the manager did the rounds to express his concerns about the coming weather.

The wine was of a very high standard, if slightly pricey, but in that location one should not expect anything else.

Where they let themselves down was with the food. Such a shame. I had the Salmon, which was the best of all the dishes we ordered. But there was not enough food there to feed a child. The lamb was served with a defrosted raw egg yolk and about two new potatoes. The veal was clearly not a good cut of meat, and it seemed as though the fries were direct from McDonalds. Worst of the bunch was the Tuna, which sounded superb on the menu. At £25 it should have been perfect, but even after taking it back to try again they didn’t present a good meal. It seemed to us that the Tuna had been frozen and was not a good piece of fish.

The deserts were ok, but not outstanding. If they spent as much time choosing and training their kitchen staff as they obviously had done on their waiting staff the place could be exceptional.

La Casita Roskilde

Very friendly staff and service.

Perhaps too large a menu, clearly just plonked on a plate and microwaved. This food was on a par with the majority of Mexican food in Denmark, sadly it will not satisfy someone searching for a special culinary experience and it was, I think, overpriced. However they clearly know their business and had no trouble filling the restaurant with happy looking punters.
